Week 2 - Day 1 - Activity 1

In this activity I was researching about cathedrals. The one that I found interesting was the Notre Dame Cathedral. I read about it on many different websites and found the answers to my questions. What I found interesting was it was built in 1163 but was considered complete in 1345.

Week 1 - Day 5 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I learned about the commonwealth games. One of the famous people in the commonwealth games were Bill Kini. He was known for winning a gold medal in boxing and also playing rugby in Otahuhu. I imagined that I got the chance to interview Bill Kini. I would ask him four questions about his time in the 1996 commonwealth games.

1. How did you feel when you won the gold medal for boxing?
2. How did you feel when you where inducted in the New Zealand Maori Sports Hall of Fame?
3. What made you continue boxing?
4. Who/What inspired you to start boxing?

Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 2

In this activity I learned about the treaty of Waitangi. Did you know that the treaty was signed in Waitangi in the northern part of New Zealand. I gathered all of the information I learned about Waitangi and turned it into three interesting facts a tourist could do in Waitangi. I would like to go surfing down the Te Paki Sand Dunes because it sounds really fun.

(#1) Did you know you could walk through the historical grounds and be challenged by warriors and admire a huge waka. You can also take a look at the beautiful pacific ocean.

(#2) Are you aware that you could snorkeling or diving in the Poor Knights Island to see the colorful underwater plants.

(#3) You could climb up the big Te Paki Sand Dunes too surf down the dunes in any position on a boogie board.

Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 1

In this activity I learned that a long time ago the European settlers did not understand the Maori language because they did not have what we have now. For this activity my challenge is to turn the five phrases I was given back into English or Maori using google translate.

Week 1 - Day 4 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I watched three performances from the Te Matatini festival. I had to rank the performances from my favorite to my least favorite. As my first favorite I choose Te Iti Kahurangi because their singing was amazing. For my second favorite I choose Tamatea Arikinui because I loved their poi dance. Finally, my last choice was Te Puku o Te Ika.

Week 1 - Day 4 - Activity 2

In this activity I went onto the website Rangatahi Tu Rangatira to learn about the traditional Maori games. I picked Poi Toa. The poi used in this game are made for kicking, throwing and passing. It is played to help improve your coordination, passing and handling of the poi. Some of the rules are to not deliberately hit you opponent above the waist and your poi must remain in motion. There are different activities that an be played such as: bull rush, relays, dodging and passing.

In this activity I researched waiata. A waiata is the name given to a traditional Maori song. I listened to a lot of waiata and I found them all interesting. The one that I really liked was Tutira Mai Nga Iwi. I liked it because it talks about unity and standing together.

In this activity I had choose three people from my family. I asked them their two favorite things to do in the summer. I choose to ask my mother, brother and my younger sister.

In this activity I did a pepeha. A pepeha is used to talk about your family or ancestory. I used it to talk about my family. In this pepeha I put: Where I come from, who my parent are, my name, the mountain I affiliate with and the river that I affiliate with.

Week 1 - Day 3 - Activity 1

In this activity I talk about having nine siblings. I explain how I would feel and if I would want to be in such be family. In my opinion I would love to be in such a big family because of the love and the support I would get. Always having someone by your side between the happy and rough times would be great. Although there would be a lot of fighting and arguing we would help each other through thick and thin.

Week 1 - Day 2 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I have provided a photo of my favorite food which is tacos. I also said what it is and why it is my favorite.

My favorite food is tacos. I love tacos because you can add your own twist to it. What I like doing is adding salsa on top of the ingredients. You could have a soft or hard shell taco but I prefer a hard shell. What I like putting in my tacos are: mince, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, onion, tomatoes and salsa.

In this activity I used google draw to create a picture of my dream job. My dream job is to become a investigator. An investigators job is to solve a crime by examining and evaluating clues. I want to become an investigator because I like to figure out mystery's and I am good at looking for clues.

In this activity I compared wharepuni to my home. A wharepuni is a house that people lived in the 1800's. I have provided an image to show you what a wharepuni looked like. I found two similarities and two differences between the wharepuni and my home.

In this activity I watched a video of Waka Ama race, The Waka Ama race is a sporting competition that both boys and girls can compete in. You have to use your paddle to get your waka past the finish line first. One day I would like to participate in this race because I am very competitive and I enjoy trying new things.

Week 1 - Day 1 - Activity 2

In this activity I am traveling to New Zealand by waka. I wrote a short letter to my friend telling them about my voyage to New Zealand and how I feel about moving countries. In my short letter I tried to describe everything I would see.

Hi, my voyage to New Zealand is beautiful. The water shimmers under the light of the sun and the mountains are eye catching. To be honest I was pretty nervous before I left. We just arrived on land and the landscape is breath taking. The water slowly rippling to the shore is amazing. The native trees here are very unique. I wish you could be here.

Week 1 - Day 1 - Activity 1

In this activity I read a story called Maui and The Giant Fish. I have read many different stories about Maui: how Maui slowed the sun and how Maui brought fire to the world but I have not read this one. The story was about Maui wanting to prove to his brothers that he was a great fisherman. He weaved together his own fishing line and caught a huge fish. From this story I picked three interesting that I didn't already know.

1. Maui used the blood from his nose as bait to catch a gigantic fish
2. The huge fish Maui had caught became known as the North Island of Aotearoa and his canoe became the South Island of Aotearoa
3. The gullies and mountains the brothers had made became landscapes of Aotearoa

Yesterday, Panmure Bridge School had some very special guests from Manaiakalani. There was the Woolf Fisher Research Center and the NEXT Foundation. They came to talk about the launch of the Summer Learning Journey 2017/2018. There were very important people at our assembly: the Board of Trustees, Mr Burt, Mr Sneddon, Mrs Pritchard and Rachel the founder of the learning journey program. At the assembly were shown the video that promoted the launch. Many students from LS2 starred in the movie. The NEXT foundation is a generous charity that funds programs like the learning journey. I have participated in the learning journey for two years and I really enjoy the interesting ways we learn about New Zealand.

Christmas In Italy

Yesterday, LS2 was working on our collaborative challenge. We were split into groups of four (I was working with Zane, Tiava and Viva) and had to work together to create a DLO about how another country celebrates Christmas. We decided to chose to learn about Italy. We found out that Italians go to a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and they call Santa Bobba Natale. In Vatican City, one of the traditions there is going to the square at noon on Christmas day to get the Pope's blessing. We all worked collaboratively and used our smart searching skills to find our information.

Sports Leader Speech

 Today I said my sports leader speech in front of my class and my teachers Mrs Anderson and Mrs Kirkpatrick. At first I was nervous but when I started I felt really confident. I think I would make a great sports leader.

Hi my name is Tiava. You should vote for me as the 2018 sports leader. I want to be sports leader because I am active and I really enjoy sports. I am good at interacting with children and adults and I am a very confident speaker. I am a reliable and trustworthy person. I want to step up and be a leader to guide other people and be a great role model. I want to represent the school and set a good example for the younger children and my peers at Panmure Bridge. For as long as I’ve attended Panmure Bridge School I participated in all different kinds of sports. I enjoy sports so much and I know there’s much more to learn. I have a lot of knowledge about the different sports that I’ve participated in that I can also share with my fellow students. If I were to be chosen as sports leader, I promise to do my best to ensure that all students who wish to participate in sports, do so and have an enjoyable time learning and playing as a collective group effort. I am confident that I have the qualities of being an amazing sports leader.

Google Scratch Game

This week LS2 have played a scratch game made by Google. The goal is to program the bunny to collect all of the carrots. Before every level they add a new feature to the programming like: arrows, turns and repeats. I found this scratch game easy because I have had experience with scratch before.

Teamwork

Today Zane, Lyric Dallas and I had took three photos to show some examples of what teamwork looks like. This week the year sevens have been learning about leadership. Teamwork is when you cooperate well with others to work together. I think it is important to have teamwork because then you can learn from each other and be more social.

Hazel Visit - Summer Learning Journey

This Friday we got a visit from Hazel who is a member of the learning journey program. She came to tell us about the 2018 Summer Learning Journey. This years theme for the learning journey is going back through time. The top three people who do the most blog posts and comments will get a prize like: slime, fidget spinners and legos. I have had a great experience with the learning journey program and I feel very confident about this years learning journey.

Tamaki Collage

This week on Friday we spent the morning at Tamaki collage. After our tech sessions we were split into three groups: robotics, social studies and PE. I was in robotics. First we needed to know the two main things for programming which is an event and an action. We were split into four groups of three. Two groups would work on programming the M bot and the other two groups would work on programming the M drone. Te Wai, Harlem and I worked on programming the M bot. We first made the M bot do simple things like run forward and turn left or right. Then our challenge was to program our M bot to get through a course. It would have to go around chairs and cross the finish line. We did a lot of hard work but it didn't go as planned so in the end we used the computer keys to finish the course. I really enjoyed our session of robotics with Mr Dunn and Max.
